Chailey resident Reg Philpott remembers that William Faulkner used to be “a
tailor down on the Green. He used to sit
there with his legs crossed and do all his sewing.Mary Izzard worked for him.”
Chailey Parish Magazine mentions him in a special list of attested men
published between January and April 1916.In January 1916 he appears as W Faulkner and in April 1916 as William
Faulkner.Nothing else is known about
this man.
